Is it true that Pete Hegseth is the current US Secretary of Defense?
Yes. A Wikipedia article states directly that Pete Hegseth has served as the United States secretary of defense since 2025, and several other sources refer to him by that title. Two January-2025-era news items describe only his nomination and confirmation hearing, reflecting an earlier stage.
