Is it true that topical vitamin C reduces dark spots on the skin?
Partly. Evidence on topical vitamin C and dark spots is mixed and mostly indirect: a systematic review and a consumer source report improvement in hyperpigmented spots, but several trials used vitamin C only in combination with other actives, and a reference source states such claims are unsubstantiated. One trial found other compounds outperformed vitamin C, and a vitamin C-containing gel did not clearly remove pigmentation.
