Is it true that the sun never set on the British Empire at its height in the early twentieth century?

Yes. Multiple reference works and a 1904 newspaper article state that the British Empire was described as the empire on which the sun never sets, with the phrase applied to it at its height in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
