Neurological studies and neuroimaging biomarkers support the existence of distinct neural correlates and structural-functional brain differences associated with synesthetic experiences between numbers (graphemes) and colors.
The claim states that neurologic coherence exists between numbers and colors in synesthesia (i.e., grapheme-color synesthesia has neural correlates). Several neuroimaging and MEG studies support the existence of distinct brain structures, functional connectivity, and cortical activation timing underlying grapheme-color synesthesia. Although one critical review (Paper 0) highlights historical methodological limitations in the field, more recent whole-brain biomarker and MEG studies (Papers 7 and 10) firmly establish that neurological differences and correlates exist. Therefore, the verdict is SUPPORTED.
