Marijuana consumption induces anxiety through cannabinoid receptor activation in the amygdala
Clinical and neuroimaging studies show that acute marijuana (THC) consumption induces anxiety and modulates amygdala function through the activation of cannabinoid-1 (CB1) receptors.
Papers [2] and [7] directly investigate and support the claim that THC induces anxiety and amygdala activation via CB1 receptors in humans. The remaining papers discuss broader aspects of the endocannabinoid system, anxiety models, or therapeutic potentials, but do not contradict the specific mechanism linking acute THC/cannabinoid activation in the amygdala to anxiety.
