COVID-19 transmits through domesticated animals
While SARS-CoV-2 can undergo reverse zoonosis from humans to certain domestic animals (such as pets and farmed mink) and rare animal-to-human transmission has been documented in high-density farming environments like mink farms, there is no evidence that domesticated animals play a significant role in community transmission to humans.
The claim is that COVID-19 transmits through domesticated animals. The literature shows that while humans can transmit the virus to pets and farmed animals (reverse zoonosis), and farmed mink have occasionally transmitted the virus back to humans, household pets do not act as significant vectors for human infection. Therefore, the claim is only partially supported in specific high-density farming contexts but contested or unsupported regarding typical domesticated pets in community settings.
