Abstract Cardiac arrest causes an abrupt cessation of circulation, which rapidly leads to global ischaemia and hypoxia. Immediate and competent care is vital, and even when the circulation has been restored, there is a profound risk of patients never regaining consciousness due to hypoxic–ischaemic brain injury, or death due recurrent cardiac arrest or multiorgan failure. The complex pattern of symptoms seen in resuscitated cardiac arrest patients has been termed post-cardiac arrest syndrome and encompasses brain injury, myocardial dysfunction, systemic ischaemia and reperfusion response, and the pathological process that caused the cardiac arrest. This educational review describes the intensive care for resuscitated cardiac arrest patients and provides discussions of current evidence and emerging trends for key therapeutic areas.

Cardiac arrest is a condition where there is a sudden cessation of cardiac activity, causing a person to become unresponsive to calls/stimuli. If there is no immediate corrective action (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and/or defibrillation), this condition will be fatal and can progress to sudden death. A 32-year-old young man who had just worked welding pipes while working at PT.X experienced a cardiac arrest, where there was no breathing and no pulse. It is known that there are several exposures that can be found during the welding process, so it is necessary to carry out an investigation to assess the possible causes of the condition, whether it is due to occupational factors or pre-existing diseases in workers. This case study report focuses on exploring the possible causes of cardiac arrest in this young worker in accordance with his duties as a welder and recommendations for what needs to be done to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. This case study will also help in creating awareness regarding the need for Daily Check Up monitoring in high-risk workers such as welders.

Primary Heart Disease: Cardiac arrest is usually seen in patients with ischemic heart disease, but it may occur in its absence.2'3 When due to ischemia, ventricular fib- rillation and asystole occur with equal frequency.4 Coronary arterioscler- osis can effect the atrioventricular node and cause intermittent complete heart block with periods of ventricular arrest and, uncommonly, fibrilla- tion. These episodes, commonly referred to as Stokes-Adams attacks, are characterized by apnea, cyanosis and clonic twitching of the muscles of the face and limbs. Death occurs unless A-V conduction reappears or an ectopic focus in the ventricle takes over pacemaker function, or unless resuscitation measures are successful.
