Peer-reviewed literature and reference materials confirm that anti-de Sitter space is characterized by a negative cosmological constant and features a conformal boundary utilized in holographic dualities.
Strongly interacting quantum field theories are notoriously difficult to work with, but new information about some of them is emerging from their surprising correspondence with gravitational theories.
Ricci-flat solutions to Einstein’s equations in four dimensions are obtained as the flat limit of Einstein spacetimes with negative cosmological constant. In the limiting process, the anti-de Sitter energy-momentum tensor is expanded in Laurent series in powers of the cosmological constant, endowing the system with the infinite number of boundary data, characteristic of an asymptotically flat solution space. The governing flat Einstein dynamics is recovered as the limit of the original energy-momentum conservation law and from the additional requirement of the line-element finiteness, providing at each order the necessary set of flux-balance equations for the boundary data. This analysis is conducted using a covariant version of the Newman-Unti gauge designed for taking advantage of the boundary Carrollian structure emerging at vanishing cosmological constant and its Carrollian attributes such as the Cotton tensor.
We show that the vacuum polarization of quantum fields in an anti-de Sitter space can naturally give rise to a small but nonzero cosmological constant in a brane world living in it. To explain the extremely small ratio of mass density in the cosmological constant to the Planck mass density in our universe (≈10 -123 ) as suggested by cosmological observations, all we need is a four-dimensional brane world (our universe) living in a five-dimensional anti-de Sitter space with a curvature radius r 0 ~10 -3 cm and a fundamental Planck energy M P ~10 9 GeV , and a scalar field with a mass [Formula: see text]. Probing gravity down to a scale ~10 -3 cm, which is attainable in the near future, will provide a test of the model.
We compute the renormalized expectation value of the stress-energy tensor operator for a quantum scalar field propagating on three-dimensional global anti-de Sitter space-time. The scalar field has general mass and nonminimal coupling to the Ricci scalar curvature, and is subject to Dirichlet, Neumann or Robin boundary conditions at the space-time boundary. We consider both vacuum and thermal states, and explore whether the weak and null energy conditions are satisfied by the quantum stress-energy tensor. We uncover a rather complicated picture: compliance with these two energy conditions depends strongly on the mass and coupling of the scalar field to the curvature, and the boundary conditions applied.
Time-dependent spacetimes in AdS/CFT: Bubble and black hole
We extend the study of time-dependent backgrounds in the AdS/CFT correspondence by examining the relation between bulk and boundary for the smooth 'bubble of nothing' solution and for the locally AdS black hole which has the same asymptotic geometry. These solutions are asymptotically locally AdS, with a conformal boundary conformal to de Sitter space cross a circle. We study the cosmological horizons and relate their thermodynamics in the bulk and boundary. We consider the alpha-vacuum ambiguity associated with the de Sitter space, and find that only the Euclidean vacuum is well-defined on the black hole solution. We argue that this selects the Euclidean vacuum as the preferred state in the dual strongly coupled CFT.

The anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence is a remarkable tool for analytically studying strongly coupled physics. Thanks to the AdS/CFT correspondence, strongly correlated quantum systems can be understood as weakly coupled gravity theories, which live in a holographic spacetime with an extra emergent dimension and constant negative curvature. Fundamental observables such as correlation functions are identified with scattering amplitudes in curved spacetime, which, in principle, can be computed by using standard perturbation theory. Unfortunately, such holographic calculations are notoriously difficult, even for tree-level processes involving four external particles. Despite relentless efforts over the past two decades, a full solution to this problem was not found. In this article, we introduce a powerful new method that solves this long-standing problem. We give a closed-form formula for all such four-point functions in a class of theories that constitute the best-known paradigms of AdS/CFT. These models exhaust the theories compatible with maximal supersymmetry, and they live in three, four, and six dimensions. Pivotal to our construction is the use of symmetries. We show that in a judiciously chosen limit, symmetry principles dictate a drastic simplification in holographic correlators, allowing them to be directly computed. Having solved this limit, we further show that the full correlators can be recovered from this special configuration by usin
Recently, in various theoretical works, path-breaking progress has been made in recovering the well-known page curve of an evaporating black hole with quantum extremal islands, proposed to solve the long-standing black hole information loss problem related to the unitarity issue. Motivated by this concept, in this paper, we study cosmological circuit complexity in the presence (or absence) of quantum extremal islands in negative (or positive) cosmological constant with radiation in the background of Friedmann-Lemai^tre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) space-time, i.e., the presence and absence of islands in anti de Sitter and the de Sitter space-time having SO(2, 3) and SO(1, 4) isometries, respectively. Without using any explicit details of any gravity model, we study the behavior of the circuit complexity function with respect to the dynamical cosmological solution for the scale factors for the above mentioned two situations in FLRW space-time using squeezed state formalism. By studying the cosmological circuit complexity, out-of-time ordered correlators, and entanglement entropy of the modes of the squeezed state, in different parameter space, we conclude the non-universality of these measures. Their remarkably different features in the different parameter space suggests their dependence on the parameters of the model under consideration.

In theoretical physics, the anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory correspondence (frequently abbreviated as AdS/CFT) is a conjectured relationship between two kinds of physical theories. On one side are anti-de Sitter spaces (AdS) that are used in theories of quantum gravity, formulated in terms of string theory or M-theory. On the other side of the correspondence are conformal field theories (CFT

The boundary of anti-de Sitter space has fewer dimensions than anti-de Sitter space itself. For instance, in the three-dimensional example illustrated above, the boundary is a two-dimensional surface. The AdS/CFT correspondence is often described as a "holographic duality" because this relationship between the two theories is similar to the relationship between a three-dimensional object and its image as a hologram. Although a hologram is two-dimensional, it encodes information about all three dimensions of the object it represents. In the same way, theories that are related by the AdS/CFT correspondence are conjectured to be exactly equivalent, despite living in different numbers of dimensions. The conformal field theory is like a hologram that captures information about the higher-dimensional quantum gravity theory.
On January 1, 1998, Juan Maldacena published a landmark paper that initiated the study of AdS/CFT. According to Alexander Markovich Polyakov, "[Maldacena's] work opened the flood gates." The conjecture immediately excited great interest in the string theory community and was considered in a paper by Steven Gubser, Igor Klebanov and Polyakov, and another paper of Edward Witten. These papers made…
Unlike our universe, which is now known to be expanding at an accelerating rate, anti-de Sitter space is neither expanding nor contracting. Instead it looks the same at all times. In more technical language, one says that anti-de Sitter space corresponds to a universe with a negative cosmological constant, whereas the real universe has a small positive cosmological constant.
Although the properties of gravity at short distances should be somewhat independent of the value of the cosmological constant, it is desirable to have a version of the AdS/CFT correspondence for positive cosmological constant. In 2001, Andrew Strominger introduced a version of the duality called the dS/CFT correspondence. This duality involves a model of spacetime called de Sitter space with a positive cosmological constant. Such a duality is interesting from the point of view of cosmology since many cosmologists believe that the very early universe was close to being de Sitter space.
Abstract We formulate a Euclidean theory of edge length dynamics based on a notion of Ricci curvature on graphs with variable edge lengths. In order to write an explicit form for the discrete analog of the Einstein-Hilbert action, we require that the graph should either be a tree or that all its cycles should be sufficiently long. The infinite regular tree with all edge lengths equal is an example of a graph with constant negative curvature, providing a connection with p-adic AdS/CFT, where such a tree takes the place of anti-de Sitter space. We compute simple correlators of the operator holographically dual to edge length fluctuations. This operator has dimension equal to the dimension of the boundary, and it has some features in common with the stress tensor.
Casimir effect in de Sitter and Anti-de Sitter braneworlds
We discuss the bulk Casimir effect (effective potential) for a conformal or massive scalar when the bulk represents five-dimensional AdS or dS space with two or one four-dimensional dS brane, which may correspond to our universe. Using zeta-regularization, the interesting conclusion is reached, that for both bulks in the one-brane limit the effective potential corresponding to the massive or to the conformal scalar is zero. The radion potential in the presence of quantum corrections is found. It is demonstrated that both the dS and the AdS braneworlds may be stabilized by using the Casimir force only. A brief study indicates that bulk quantum effects are relevant for brane cosmology, because they do deform the de Sitter brane. They may also provide a natural mechanism yielding a decrease of the four-dimensional cosmological constant on the physical brane of the two-brane configuration.

Quantum complexity quantifies the difficulty of preparing a state or implementing a unitary transformation with limited resources. Applications range from quantum computation to condensed matter physics and quantum gravity. Here, we seek to bridge the approaches of these fields, which define and study complexity using different frameworks and tools. We describe several definitions of complexity, along with their key properties. In quantum information theory, we focus on complexity growth in random quantum circuits. In quantum many-body systems and quantum field theory (QFT), we discuss a geometric definition of complexity in terms of geodesics on the unitary group. In dynamical systems, we explore a definition of complexity in terms of state or operator spreading, as well as concepts from tensor-networks. We also outline applications to simple quantum systems, quantum many-body models, and QFTs including conformal field theories (CFTs). Finally, we explain the proposed relationship between complexity and gravitational observables within the holographic anti-de Sitter (AdS)/CFT correspondence.
In this report we explore the remarkable connections between light-front dynamics, its holographic mapping to gravity in a higher-dimensional anti-de Sitter (AdS) space, and conformal quantum mechanics. This approach provides new insights into the origin of a fundamental mass scale and the physics underlying confinement dynamics in QCD in the limit of massless quarks. The result is a relativistic light-front wave equation for arbitrary spin with an effective confinement potential derived from a conformal action and its embedding in AdS space. This equation allows for the computation of essential features of hadron spectra in terms of a single scale. The light-front holographic methods described here gives a precise interpretation of holographic variables and quantities in AdS in terms of light-front variables and quantum numbers. This leads to a relation between the AdS wave functions and the boost-invariant light-front wave functions describing the internal structure of hadronic bound states in physical space-time. The pion is massless in the chiral limit and the excitation spectra of relativistic light-quark meson and baryon bound states lie on linear Regge trajectories with identical slopes in the radial and orbital quantum numbers. In the light-front holographic approach described here currents are expressed as an infinite sum of poles, and form factors as a product of poles. At large $q^2$ the form factor incorporates the correct power-law fall-off for hard scattering in
We investigate the effects of higher curvature corrections from Lovelock gravity on the phase structure of asymptotically AdS black holes, treating the cosmological constant as a thermodynamic pressure. We examine how various thermodynamic phenomena, such as Van der Waals behaviour, reentrant phase transitions (RPT), and tricritical points are manifest for U(1) charged black holes in Gauss-Bonnet and 3rd-order Lovelock gravities. We furthermore observe a new phenomenon of ‘multiple RPT’ behaviour, in which for fixed pressure the small/large/small/large black hole phase transition occurs as the temperature of the system increases. We also find that when the higher-order Lovelock couplings are related in a particular way, a peculiar isolated critical point emerges for hyperbolic black holes and is characterized by non-standard critical exponents.
